As a way of recognizing the evolution of artistic research and practice within the contemporary discourse, for this edition of Art Basel Miami Beach, Luciana Brito Galeria is presenting a selection of works that reflects the gallery’s commitment to the artistic debate in a curatorship that considers an intercrossing between different artistic languages and approaches, proper to contemporaneity. To this end, it is presenting a group of works by Waldemar Cordeiro (1925, Italy – 1973, Brazil), in a meaningful dialogue with works by Héctor Zamora (1974, Mexico), Iván Navarro (1972, Chile) and Regina Silveira (1932, Brazil). Especially for this edition of the fair, Luciana Brito Galeria is introducing a brand-new partnership with Galeria Estação, reinforcing both galleries’ concern for valorizing art in Brazil as an inclusive and social solution.

For Art Basel Miami Beach 2016 we present in the Galleries Sector a special project by Geraldo de Barros (Chavantes, 1923 – São Paulo, 1998). The exhibition comprises rare works and studies from different moments of his production, thus presenting a panorama of his prolific and versatile artistic trajectory: photos from the famous Fotoformas series, experimental Formica pieces from the 1980s and 90s, studies on paper, and serigraphs. We will also include furniture designs by Geraldo de Barros to embrace his lifetime dedication to design.  Besides Geraldo de Barros we are featuring the works by Bosco Sodi, Caio Reisewitz, Liliana Porter, Héctor Zamora, Tiago Tebet and Tobias Putrih.

We are pleased to announce the continuity of Luciana Brito Galeria’s participation in Art Basel Miami Beach. This year, we will present at our stand M4 – Galleries Sector, a selection of hitherto unseen works by Leandro Erlich (Buenos Aires, 1973) and pieces created from 1990 to 2015 by Marina Abramović (Belgrade, 1946).

In this edition, our stand will comprise a private room with a selection of reference works by some of our artists. The highlights include an engraving in aluminium plate from the series Touch, by Regina Silveira (Porto Alegre, 1939); a photograph in large dimensions from the series Guanabara, by Caio Reisewitz (São Paulo, 1967); vintage photos by Geraldo de Barros (Chavantes, 1923 – São Paulo, 1998), Thomaz Farkas (Budapest, 1924 – São Paulo, 2011) and Gaspar Gasparian (São Paulo, 1899 – 1966); a gouache on paper from the 1950s by Waldemar Cordeiro (Rome, 1925 – São Paulo, 1973); and a video installation by Eder Santos (Belo Horizonte, 1960).

Following our curatorial proposal aiming to deepen the contact with the works by exhibiting at most two artists in our booths, we have selected new works by Tobias Putrih (Slovenia, 1972) and Tiago Tebet (Brasil, 1986). In common – in addition of being from recent generations – they have the interest in reinventing our perception by inventive uses of everyday materials and images, questioning sensorial and cultural standards in different levels.  + Alongside our stand, we are participating in the Film Program with Corda [Rope], a recent work by Pablo Lobato (Brasil, 1976), awarded by Loop Festival, Spain. In the video, images of celebration and penance recorded in a religious procession provoke the senses thanks to subtly disturbing edition and framing.

Check on our fanpage some images from the booth.
