"Desvanecer" is the second solo show by Iván Navarro at Luciana Brito Galeria and features an installation made using neon lights on the main wall of the exhibition space. Lights and colors attract our gaze and awaken our senses to an infinite symbolic space. The illusion of perspective takes place through “vanishing points,” making us uncertain about what is in fact real. What we see is therefore an apparent paradox, where geometry gives us the sensation that the environment is much larger, as it swallows any image placed in front of it, causing it to disappear, to vanish.

Iván worked with the same concept in 2009, at the 53rd Venice Biennale, where he showed aluminum doors that produced a similar effect. Unlike on that occasion, in Devanecer the works function as windows, making the experience more visual than corporeal. The way we perceive the different patterns of neon colors and the sizes of the lightboxes, and how they metaphorically alter the surrounding space, is fundamental in this work by Iván.

The repetition of the pattern conceived for the exhibition room finds an important complementation in the installation Water Tower (2014), located in the area outside the gallery. This work presents the image of an endless ladder located within the wooden recipient, theoretically produced to store water. As part of the series This Land is Your Land, the work invites the visitors to position themselves below the water tower and to observe what is inside of it: a pathway to the infinite.
